Welcome to my sports blog. My name is Johnny. I live in this great country called Canada. I love all kinds of sports, especially hockey, football, and boxing. My favorite recreational sport is fishing. My favorite teams are the Washington Capitals (yup, even though I'm Canadian) and the Kansas City Chiefs. I know, I know.... I'm still waiting for a championship. But I'm sure I'll get one before I die. So now enough about me, it's time for sports talk.

Capitals Merchandise is in High Demand Now this is cool (straight from the horse's mouth):

The NHL recently released online sales figures for Shop.NHL.com and Washington Capitals merchandise - featuring the team's new logos and red, white and blue colors - is in high demand. Twenty-four of the 30 teams increased their sales in July, but the Capitals represented the third most significant improvement, experiencing a 228% growth in sales year-over-year. Only the Buffalo Sabres and Nashville Predators had higher increases.

In a month filled with Stanley Cup memorabilia available online, the Capitals had two of the top 10 selling items in July. A red Alex Ovechkin T-shirt was the sixth most popular item, and the Caps' red 2007 NHL Draft flex hat was the 10th most purchased item. The Ovechkin T-shirt ranked second among all player-specific merchandise (trailing only a New York Rangers' Chris Drury T-shirt) and first among players who did not join new teams in July. The Capitals were one of only two teams to have both a player T-shirt and a hat in the top 10.

Now let's see if we can put a winning team on the ice. Go Caps, Go! LEEEEEEEE!

Crosby signs for $8.7 million/year for 5 years Crosby puts down roots in Pittsburgh

The city of Pittsburgh no longer has to fret about the Penguins going anywhere. And now the Steel City doesn’t have to worry about Sidney Crosby going anywhere for a very long time either after the MVP inked a five-year contract extension that will keep him in a Penguins uniform through the 2012-13 season.

Crosby, the team captain in every sense of the term, agreed to a five-year extension Tuesday that is expected to give the Penguins more salary-cap maneuverability when it comes time to re-sign other youngsters like Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal in the next few years. So far this summer, the Pens, eliminated by Ottawa in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, have signed budding defensive star Ryan Whitney (six years), Mark Recchi, Gary Roberts, Darryl Sydor and Petr Sykora to contracts.

Clearly, Crosby’s was the biggest of them all. No. 87 will average $8.7 million per season under the terms of the new deal, which officially begins during the 2008-09 season.

Washington Capitals return to the Red, White and Blue! Back in Red, White and Blue, Caps Make a Colorful Statement - washingtonpost.com: "Twelve years to the day they jettisoned the logo and color scheme that defined their first two decades, the Washington Capitals are returning to their roots. Red, white and blue jerseys are back, with the familiar stars on the chest and the 't' in 'Capitals' shaped like a hockey stick across the front.

"We're really happy with it," General Manager George McPhee said of the design.

The Capitals' new look, which has been under development in conjunction with athletic apparel company Reebok for nearly three years, puts a modern touch on the star-laden, red, white and blue uniform the team wore from 1974 until 1995.

"Going back to red, white and blue is about returning to tradition," said majority owner Ted Leonsis, who assumed control of the team in 1999. "I grew up a Caps fan. So red, white and blue is what I've always associated with the Caps. We've come up a design that is obvious and natural."

"Capitals" is emblazoned in dark blue lettering on the chest of the jerseys, with the letter "t" extending down and forming a hockey stick alongside a stylized puck. "Washington" is written in capital letters over the club's name, and three stars -- representing Maryland, the District and Virginia -- sit above the city's name. The numbers and lettering on the back of the red home jersey are white with a blue outline. The font figures to be easy to read from the seats.

A shoulder patch features a bald eagle, a 'W' intertwined in its spread wings, perched above a silhouette of the Capitol building.

The white road jersey features the same logo on the front but the numbers and lettering on the back are red with a blue outline.

The players' shorts are blue, as are the socks, which feature red and white striping.

The Capitals' first significant uniform change occurred in 1995, when the franchise adopted a bald eagle for its primary logo and blue, black and bronze for its colors. In 2001, the alternate all-black, dome logo jersey became the home uniform.

Colts win the Superbowl Ok, it's been a while since I've written here. Been busy. But The Colts finally won the Superbowl. Read about it here: Super Bowl News - SuperBowl.com - Official website of Super Bowl XLI. Strange game. The rain made it hard for the quarterbacks to get something going, but Payton Manning still got the job done. As much as I'm a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I was hoping the Colts would win it this year (I knew the Chiefs had no chance). Prince was "almost" not bad. Thought he would be alot worse.

Even the Rain Couldn't Stop us. After losing our home opener to the Orleans Bengals 9-8, we entered the hostile environment of the East Ottawa Generals and totally kicked butt with a convincing 25-6 victory. Torencial downpours couldn't keep us off the scoreboard. Our offence was on fire and the "D" was solid. We're off to visit the North Gloucester Giants next week. Here's our league site: http://www.ncafa.ca/.

Our camping trip ending up being the trip from HELL. The rain came down soooo hard on Saturday (the tail end of Hurricane Ernesto) that we had to bail out in the middle of the night and head back home to sleep. We went back the next morning and everything was completely soaked. Although, we did have a great time for the time we were there. We really got a great bunch of friends. We played games, fished, boated, ate, and drank, drank, DRANK.

LET'S GO WILDCATS!!! Wow, what a weekend. First we traveled to Quebec this weekend to play our final football exhibition game. Final score: Cornwall Wildcats 20 - Gatineau Vikings 0. My son Lucas got the first touchdown of the game, an 8-yard reception which proved to be the game winner. LET'S GO WILDCATS!!! It was hot as hell, but well worth it. We head into Orleans next week for our first real game against the Bengals. Let's hope we can have a repeat performance. Then my daughter Julia was awarded the pretigious Editor's Choice Award for her cool poem "Finding Me". Keep it up, kids. We're so proud of you both. Check out the picture below, we're the team in red.

Als & Sabres

The Alouettes improved to 7-0 for the first time since 2002, the last year they won the Grey Cup. Ok, so they beat up on a banged up Toronto team that has more injuries than "Contact C" has little balls, but we still know where this is going. See you at the parade, Montreal!

In NHL action, the Buffalo Sabres are finally putting the media to rest. Yes, $5 million is a lot for Daniel Briere, but they are showing that they have confidence in last year's (almost) Stanley Cup hero. If they can keep last year's team and do a little tweaking (and I don't mean changing their colors AGAIN), they will have a great shot at the Cup again. Buffalo is one of the leagues hardest working teams and can possibly win it all, unless they play the Washington Capitals (Sorry Jim, couldn't hold back on that one).
