Welcome to my sports blog. My name is Johnny. I live in this great country called Canada. I love all kinds of sports, especially hockey, football, and boxing. My favorite recreational sport is fishing. My favorite teams are the Washington Capitals (yup, even though I'm Canadian) and the Kansas City Chiefs. I know, I know.... I'm still waiting for a championship. But I'm sure I'll get one before I die. So now enough about me, it's time for sports talk.

Italy Wins 2006 FIFA World Cup
From TSN : "This was no beautiful game. Instead, it was a World Cup final that was at times chaotic, sloppy and ugly, with Italy winning in a penalty shootout Sunday after the match finished 1-1 after extra time. For France, there was only pain."
For us Italians, it was a bitter sweet victory.
We spent the day in Long Sault. My family and friends were on hand as we watched the game on a little 4 inch color TV, with the reception being so bad that at one point we almost had my nephew touching the antenna with his toes and arms outstretched mirroring the effects of rabbit ears. As the game whined down, the crowd grew. Piles of Italian fans crowded our pic-nik table. Mom pretty much started serving watermelon to the crowd, who yelled in excitement everytime Italy scored, and moaned every time France did the same. Fortunately there were more yells than moans and the outcome was satisfying.
After the game, we made sausages, chicken brochetes, and other tasty treats on the BBQ, followed by more fishing in Burt's boat (all we caught was seaweed). The wine was tasty, the beer was cold, and the victory was sweet.
So for the next 4 years all I could say is: VIVA ITALIA!!!!
