Welcome to my sports blog. My name is Johnny. I live in this great country called Canada. I love all kinds of sports, especially hockey, football, and boxing. My favorite recreational sport is fishing. My favorite teams are the Washington Capitals (yup, even though I'm Canadian) and the Kansas City Chiefs. I know, I know.... I'm still waiting for a championship. But I'm sure I'll get one before I die. So now enough about me, it's time for sports talk.

The Cup goes to Carolina! This has been the most exciting playoff year ever. I don't know if it was because we missed a year of hockey, the new NHL, or the players are just faster and better, but damn it was exciting. It was actually hard to watch because I had taken the Carolina Hurricanes in my hockey pool to win in 6, but at the same time I'm a Canadian at heart and wanted badly for the Edmonton Oilers to win. It would have made a great comeback. Hats off to both teams for making this such a memorable season. Check this out.

Rookie goaltender Cam Ward was terrific in the win and the series and was named the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the postseason. He was the second youngest goaltender to win the cup. The youngest of course being Patrick Roy.

And let's not forget .... "I WON THE POOOOOOOOLLLLL!!"

Making History While making history, Fernando Pisani broke hearts in Carolina and broke records. He scored on a shorthanded breakaway at 3:31 into the first overtime period to give the Edmonton Oilers a 4-3 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. Carolina now leads 3-2. UNBELIEVABLE!! WHAT A GAME!! This is playoff hockey.

Pisani's breakaway goal was the first overtime, shorthanded goal in Stanley Cup Final history. It also was the first overtime, shorthanded goal that prevented a team from being eliminated. Could it also be the first 3-1 comeback for the Stanley Cup.

Here's an interesting stat: Cory Stillman is playing in his second consecutive finals, and is trying to become just the sixth player since 1927 to win consecutive Cups with different teams.

Only these players have done it since 1927:
Lionel Conacher - 1934 Chicago, 1935 Montreal Maroons
Ab McDonald - 1960 Montreal, 1961 Chicago
Al Arbour - 1961 Chicago, 1962 Toronto
Ed Litzenberger - 1961 Chicago, 1962 Toronto
Claude Lemieux - 1995 New Jersey, 1996 Colorado

Hurricanes jump to 3-1 lead Man, I can't believe it. I'm one game away from winning our hockey pool. If I do, it'll make up for not winning the last one. Mr. Pro-Canada, and I picked the 'Canes in 6. I'm glad Eric Staal had a couple of points so the critics could lay their thoughts to rest. They don't realize that you don't have to score in every game to be a superstar. Read this article. This kids proven himself all year and has not let up in the playoffs.

In World cup soccer, Andrea Pirlo scored late in the first half and Vincenzo Iaquinta added a goal late in the second half to give the Italians a 2-0 victory over Ghana (Hey Tammy, send my regards to Danny). England beat Paraguay 1-nil and unfortunately the US lost 3-0 to the Czechs. Full scores and recaps are here.

The Mavericks have taken a 2-0 series lead.

I've got a sports blog! Wow! I can't believe! I've got a sports blog! This is so cool. Ok. Now that that's off my chest, let's talk sports. There's so much going on in sports right now. It's the best time of the year. The Stanley Cup finals are on, NBA finals, and the World Cup is starting today.

Hurricanes have a 2-0 series lead, but don't forget, the Sharks had a 2-0 lead and Edmonton came back to win the series, so don't count the Oilers down. I think the Oilers are shooting themselves in the foot because even though they lost their goaltender, they didn't have a direct plan as to who was going to be in nets. Who is the back to Dwayne Roloson? I thought it was Ty Conklin. When the coach says we're not sure who's going in, it brings the team down. Look at Ottawa. All they could do (even after Ray Emery played outstanding) was talk about Hasek's return. Now that's a real confidence booster, eh? Then again, if there's one team that can battle adversity and bounce back to win it all, it's Edmonton. My prediction for this series from the start was Carolina in 6.

(4) Dallas vs. (2) Miami
Mavericks lead series 1-0

And the World Cup. Any predictions? Let's go Canada!! Oh yeah, we play hockey. Then let's go US.

Feel free to post any comments you may have.
